Social media is such an important platform and one not to be ignored. We hear many companies saying they are too busy to post on social media, but to be honest, if you don’t, you are missing out on huge opportunities. Social media allows you to showcase your business to a wide audience for free, what’s not to love?

There are options for targeting your desired audience through paid methods, which you can read more about here, but today we are going to go through the top three ways to improve how you post on social media.

INTERESTING, RELATABLE CONTENT

There are so many social media pages now online, you have to think to yourself, what can I do to keep these followers loyal and interested in my page? People use social media as a chance to escape, connect, research, and learn, it is very important you fulfill these needs in order to be successful.

The first piece of advice would be to sit down at the start of the year and mark out what events, holidays promotions, etc you know will be happening during the year. You can also use this as an opportunity to think of ideas you would like to cover during the year.
Your followers will be happy if your platform brings benefits to them. For example, if you are in the hospitality industry posting content like “The best things to do on your trip to Dublin” or “Exercises you can do from your hotel room when traveling for work” would be very useful and helpful information for the customers.

If you are stuck for time/content don’t worry about what you post on Facebook you can also post on Instagram as they are similar platforms with similar audiences. Just make sure to use you hashtags on Instagram and you are good to go.

CONSISTENT

It is important to be consistent with your posts on social media. There is nothing worse than going on a social media platform and there are no current posts, just stale and unrelatable content. Schedule time in your diary to post at least once a week to keep your page fresh, interesting, and up to date. If you have made your plan of what you want to post you can even sit down at the start of the month and schedule them out.

This will save you time and allow you to cover all your social media posts for the month in just an hour. When you think about it posting once a week means just four times in a month which is easily doable.

It is also important to be consistent across each of your social media channels and dedicate equal amounts of time to each. As mentioned previously Facebook and Instagram have similar audiences so you can reuse your content to post on each platform, killing two birds with one stone.

ENGAGE/INTERACT WITH FOLLOWERS

It is important to connect and engage with your followers in order to build lasting relationships. Post content with a question, inviting your followers to engage and get a conversation going. When a follower posts a comment under your post or writes a review be sure to recognise them and respond. Whether you get positive or negative comments/reviews it is important to address them all.

If posting a competition ask your followers to share an experience with you, nominate a friend who deserves the prize or ask them to explain why they should win. This will create conversation and more engagement on your social media platform, unlike if you just asked them to like the post for example.

It is important to monitor what people are saying about you online, whether it’s good or bad press you should be in the know. Google Alerts is a great tool to sign up to. You can set up an alert with your company name for example and anytime you are mentioned you will receive a notification to your email so you too can join in the conversation.

Now you know the best practices to incorporate when posting on social media, it’s just a matter of putting them into practice.
